Biography

Roy D. Taylor was born on January 17, 1932 in Carlyle, a son of James J. and Mildred (Kolmer) Taylor. He married Louise Goldsmith on October 17, 1951, at St. Dominic’s Church in Breese and she survives in Carlyle.

Mr. Taylor was a retired autoworker for General Motors and a member of St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle and the United Auto Workers Union. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Roy was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Roy D. Taylor entered into rest on Friday, January 22, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. He was 78 years of age.

In addition to his wife Louise, Mr. Taylor is also survived by a daughter – Peggy Gebke and husband Randy of Bartelso; 2 grandchildren – Erica Rennegarbe and Adam Gebke and wife Melissa; a great grandson – Braxton Rennegarbe; 4 sisters – Mildred Lampe and husband David of Germantown, Nancy Wood and friend Chris Weckler of Belleville, Ilene Allison and husband Ray of Chester and Darleen Hegger and husband Don of Aviston; 2 brothers – Jesse Taylor and wife Rose of Carlyle and Bob Taylor and wife Connie of Cabot, Arkansas; 3 sisters-in-law – Pat Taylor and Margie Taylor, both of Carlyle and Ruth Zeisset and husband Charles of Trenton and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons – Joseph Michael in 1956 and Thomas Roy in 2009; a grandson-in-law – Nicholas Rennegarbe; 2 sisters – Dolores Niebur and husband Virgil and Phyllis Taylor Schniers and husband Bernell and 2 brothers – Charlie Taylor and Jack Taylor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, January 25, 2010, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck and Fr. Henry J. Fischer, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to visiting hours at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle on Sunday from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. and on Monday from 8:00 – 9:30 A.M.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Taylor may be made St. Mary’s Church and will be accepted at Zieren Day Funeral Home.
