Life Legacy
Shirley M. Linton was born on October 3, 1937, in Wheatfield Township, Clinton County, Illinois, a daughter of Andrew E. and Alvenia R. (Peters) Krieger. She married James Robert Linton on August 3, 1957, and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1977.
Mrs. Linton managed the cafeteria for Carlyle Community Unit District #1 for 23 years, retiring in 1998. She also worked at the Clinton County Jail. She enjoyed bingo and being with her family, especially watching her grandsons play sports.
Shirley M. Linton died on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was 72 years of age.
Mrs. Linton is survived by a son - Don “Bone” Linton & wife Darlene of Carlyle; a daughter - Denise Hammond of Carlyle; 3 grandsons - Chris (Amy) Hammond, Joe Linton and Jared Linton a great grandson - Chase Hammond and brothers in law and sisters in law.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, February 1, 2010, at Zieren-Day Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mckendree Chapel Cemetery near Keyesport.
Visitation will be held at Zieren-Day Funeral Home in Carlyle on Sunday, January 31, 2010, from 3-7 PM and on Monday from 8 AM until service time.
In lieu of flowers expressions of Sympathy in memory of Mrs. Linton may be made to the Carlyle High School Athletic Boosters of to Relay for Life, and will be accepted at the Funeral Home.
