Edward G. Beer was born in Bartelso, Illinois on June 21, 1919, a son of Henry J. and Bernadine (Mensing) Beer. He married Margie Cook Kolovich on January 22, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas and she survives in Carlyle.
Mr. Beer was was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle, Knights of Columbus Council 1328, and the Holy Name Society at church. He was also a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America, Local 480. Ed was a retired carpet layer and custodian. He worked at Zieren Furniture, Farmers & Merchants Bank and the B & M boat plant. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the medical corps in the U. S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Beer was a past commander of American Legion, Post 404 in Carlyle.
Edward G. Beer died on Thursday, January 28, 2001, at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese, Illinois. He was 90 years of age.
In addition to his wife Marge, Mr. Beer is also survived by 2 sons - Dennis Beer of Carlyle and Gary Beer and wife Patsy of Carlyle; a daughter in law - Kimberly Beer of Defiance, Missouri; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son - Joe Kolovich Beer, a brother - Alvin Beer and wife Adelphia; 3 sisters - Henrietta Loepker and husband John, Elinore Niehanke and husband Aloys and Leona Johnson and husband Martin “Hoot”.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. Chuck Tuttle, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at Zieren-Day funeral Home in Carlyle on Monday, February 1, 2010, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. and on Tuesday from 8:00 A.M. until service time.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Beer may be made to the American Heart Association or the St. Louis Children’s Hospital and will be received at Zieren Day Funeral Home.
