Biography
Mark L. Feldmann was born on June 17, 1921, in Beckemeyer, Illinois, a son of John and Rose (Erlinger) Feldmann. He married Leona Kunkel on May 26, 1947, by Rev. Msgr. Hilgenberg at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle, and they were married for 63 years.
Mr. Feldmann served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon his discharge, he worked as a foreman at the Wee Walker (Trimfoot) Shoe Factory in Carlyle. He met his beloved wife Leona while working at the shoe factory. He retired in July of 1983 after 42 years. Mark was a member of St. Mary’s Church, where he was a cantor and Eucharistic Minister and member of the choir for 50 years. He sang and soloed at many funerals and weddings through the years. Mr. Feldmann was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1382, Carlyle; Marion Catholic War Veterans, Bartelso; Holthaus-Kampwerth American Legion Post 1227, Beckemeyer and the V.F.W. Post 3523, Carlyle. Mark was a devoted family man and had much pride and love for his family. His passion was singing and service to his church. He enjoyed many games of pinochle with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mark L. Feldmann entered into rest on July 15, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. He was 89 years of age.
Mark is survived by his wife, Leona Feldmann of Carlyle; 3 daughters – Marilyn Feldmann of Cullowhee, North Carolina, Joyce Conner and husband Mike of Centralia and Jan Radcliff and husband Cary of Belleville; 2 sons – Dr. Ron Feldmann and wife Roseann of Sycamore, Illinois and Dan Feldmann and wife Kim of Carlyle; 6 grandchildren – Tim Feldmann of Long Beach, California, Chrissie Feldmann of Memphis, Tennessee, Matt Feldmann of Carlyle, Amanda Feldmann of Carlyle, Kacie Nordquist and husband Steve of Clearwater, Florida and Krystal Stephens and husband Ben of Swansea; a brother – John Feldmann and wife Ginny of Algonquin, Illinois; a sister – Pat Kuczka and husband Gus of Atlanta, Georgia; 3 sisters-in-law – Sr. Johnel Kunkel, PHJC and Sr. Alice Kunkel, PHJC, both of Donaldson, Indiana and Betty Kunkel of Carlyle; a brother-in-law – Bill Radosh and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers – Maurice Feldmann and wife Margaret, Ralph Feldmann and wife Evelyn and Rev. Jerome Feldmann; 3 sisters – Mary Brueggemann and husband Arnold, Dorothy Radosh and Bernice Feldmann and his in-laws – Aloys Kunkel, Ed Kunkel and wife Josephine and Helen Kunkel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 19, 2010, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carlyle. Visitation will be held at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle on Sunday, July 18 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and on Monday morning from 8:00 – 9:30 A.M. The Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary in Mark’s memory on Sunday at St. Mary’s Church at 7:00 P.M. The Beckemeyer American Legion will hold a prayer service Sunday evening at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
Memorials in memory of Mr. Feldmann may be made to St. Mary’s Church or to Mater Dei High School and will be accepted at the funeral home.
