Life Legacy


Fern F. Harris, 98, of DeSoto, Kansas passed away peacefully on the 29th day of December, 2011. Services will be held on Tuesday January 3rd at Zieren-Day Funeral home, 11th and Clinton Street in Carlyle, Illinois.Visitation will be held from 9am to 12pm with services immediately following at McKendre Cemetery in Keyesport, Illinois.

Fern was born in the Wisetown, Beaver Creek area on September 19th, 1913. Her parents were Charles Albert Sanders and Eathel Nola Willmirth Sanders. She was married to Alfred G. Harris on September 30th, 1934, who preceded her in death in 1963. They resided and raised their family in Keyesport, Illinois until 1968, when Fern moved to Greenville, Illinois.

She was a member of the first Christian church of Greenville and enjoyed volunteering at the church. She also was a member of the Rebecca Lodge of Keyesport for many years. Her hobbies were making beautiful quilts, making fair winning banana bread, playing bingo with her friends and helping with the women’s auxiliary in Greenville.

Left behind to cherish her memory are two sons, Bill Harris (Brenda) of Louisburg, Kansas and Bob Harris (Rayma) of Carlyle, Illinois. One daughter, Gloria Harris Williams (Dennis) of Flemington, Missouri. Seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Four sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.
